While there are many activities to do in gardens, it does not cover all needs. A place to sit and eat, drink, talk but be outdoors. For this a partly enclosed space, where you can behave as you do in doors but with the beauty of the sun and nature. It makes use of space which isn't often used, yet still requires a lot of (garden) work. Gardens have become for spectating. This space can be enclosed by walls of buildings, walls of foliage, columns, trellis, and sky. Best if this space creates a continuous space with the living room.

The aspect of having a protected space inside of the design was important from the start. This eventually turned into a large structure enclosed by railings and columns. Originally I was planning on having smaller, more enclosed spaces. But I was interested in the aspect of weather in my design as a natural, unavoidable element. If you want to avoid the weather, stay inside. While I do provide shelter from rain and sun in my structure, having more enclosed spaces would have made it too comfortable. Part of the experience of camping is not everything being pleasant. In our modern life, we are always being sheltered from our surroundings, pulling an umbrella as soon as it gets rainy. With my design the raw natural elements of nature are not hidden away, but fully exposed.
