Human instinct to climb up and survey the world
All historic cultures built singular taller structures in cities and towns such as churches or towers
Gives orientation and a place to look out to
A place for visitors to see but also locals to reassess the shape and scope of their surroundings, act of climbing clears the mind and prepares the body
From the start I knew I wanted to play with heights. Especially since one of my favorite features of the rooftop was the surrounding skyline, I wanted to ensure that every tent had a good view and that there was a place for everyone to go at the highest part of the rooftop.
While researching the surroundings we walked up an attached car park. With several inclined floor leading many spiraling floors up, it was quite a walk. This made me think of the "clearing the mind" aspect of high places. The final design includes the car park as the only way to access the rooftop. In this way my rooftop because like a mountain top.
If my rooftop is like a mountain, the peak is the top of the structure where there is unobstructed views of the surrounding.
